Being and Dying is a design research group. We research and investigate current approaches to life and death and use design to propose new ways of being.
Our work sets out to challenge the notion that death is in stark opposition to life. We believe that to live well and experience a good death we need good design. Crucially, we approach improving life and preparing for death from a holistic perspective, linking both states together as a unified experience. This broadens to include issues around wellbeing, preventative healthcare and the health in the environment. We research how current and future technology can connect with traditional and emerging health practices to create genuinely holistic products, services and experiences. We do this through a combination of trandisciplinary practices; filmmaking, product and industrial design, interaction and graphic design, collaborating with healthcare practitioners, academics and other specialists.
